Extend the life of fresh spinach
Proper storage slows wilting and spoilage. The goal is to control moisture and airflow, keeping leaves dry and cool without crushing them.
Storage steps:
- Inspect and remove any damaged leaves before storing to prevent decay from spreading.
- Wrap dry spinach loosely in paper towels to absorb excess moisture and place inside a ventilated container or a perforated plastic bag.
- Store in the crisper drawer of the fridge, ideally at the vegetable drawer’s higher humidity setting.
Additional tips:
- Don’t wash before storing; wash right before use unless you plan to dry thoroughly and rewrap.
- If you buy spinach in bulk, divide into smaller portions so you only open what you need.
- Use within 5–7 days for best quality, though baby spinach bought very fresh may last a bit longer with careful storage.
These simple steps help maintain texture and flavor so leaves are ready for salads or cooking.
